That's really a shame. It's a beautiful building and was maintained in perfect shape up until Chrysler vacated it, but we all knew this would happen. A vacant building that size in New York would get renovated and repurposed but in Detroit, it had very little chance of seeing any further use. I believe AMC had preserved Charles Nash's office intact over the years as he left it, bet that's all gone now.
Chrysler used it as their Jeep/Truck Engineering Center, responsible for all light truck development. The employees that worked there liked the arrangement, since it kept them further away from direct corporate control and gave them a bit more freedom. The move to Auburn Hills definitely made sense from an economic standpoint - why pay for two sprawling office facilities when one will do? - but it was controversial internally.

Another issue is that its in the middle of fucking nowhere. There really isnt much a reason to put anything there.

Ha that was a good read. The new owner ended up in jail and had the property seized. I'll have to stop by some day since I drive by so often (expressway is right next to it) and get a pic, since both of my Jeeps were engineered there.
